Sex Tax? Someone Tell Me It Is Not True!

Sex Tax Well, here we go again. Legislators in the great state of Nevada have come up with a novel way of turning around the state's $704 million dollar deficit . Tax sex! Currently, the suggested tax would only apply to the legal multi-million dollar brothel industry. However, I cannot help but wonder how such a tax would be applied or how long it will be before some brilliant politician decides to extend the sex tax to those of us whom are united in holy matrimony. How would the government tax sex? I suppose that there are many ingenious methods the government can devise to tax sex. They could tax sex by the hour or by the minute as the case may be. They could tax sex based on the mileage or ? Maybe there will be different rates applied based on age, gender or education. Perhaps there will be group rates. And, knowing the government as we do, it is very unlikely that there will be deductions available for poor quality sex. What are Nevada's politicians thinking?

First of all, I am of the opinion that prostitution should not be legal in the first place. And although the world's oldest profession has been practiced in Nevada tax free for generations I cannot help but think that taxing the brothel industry provides a full sanction of approval for illicit sex by those very individuals in government who are called to be the leaders of decency and order. What is wrong with this picture? It would be just one more example of the moral degradation of our society and the decline of our nation.

I fear that if Nevada should succeed at this attempt to raise revenue by taxing sexual activities that other states would soon follow suit. After all, California , where I live, has a $36 billion dollar deficit and is looking at ways to cut back on services to children, the developmentally disabled and the aged. Let's legalize and tax prostitution and THEN we would be able to take care of our disadvantaged and poor. Why not, they already legalized gambling to help pay for our failing schools systems and it's still not enough.

Hmmm Why not just have our state legislators star in porno movies and turn the proceeds over to the state? Someone like Arnold Schwartzenager could clear up the state's deficit in no time. Coming soon The Sperminator? Yikes!

The infernal revenue has been taxing the profits of brothels since they became legal and the girls are required to pay tax (including social security) on what they receive. Tips included if they can be determined. The present issue is weather they should have additional tax like cigarettes or liquor. It is interesting that the brothel industry actually voted to allow the tax thinking that the government would never outlaw what they are receiving a tax on.

I have mixed emotions on this subject and thank you for writting an article.

I definitely have an opinion when it comes to what seemingly demolishes the sanctity of marriage and, this one definitely fits.

Michelle if its sin who says so? Evidently you said it all when you identified the dollars associated with this industry and according to the Book of Bob's it is no more then another confirmation of that book's synopsis. I guess there are a lot of people who really aren't who they say they are. After all this is the age of enlightenment. Regards.

Thanks Bob and it is good to hear from you.

I am in agreement with "the book of Bob." I know however, I can't live my life according to Michelle. If the world did live by my book, we would all be messed up.

Thank you Razeen,

I am from CA and I hope that the Sperminator will go back to acting or retire. I don't want to see him at my house.

Blessings,
