Things That Go 'Bump' in The Night

Most of us have heard of the expression of "things that go bump in the night". For many of us it conjures up images of strange and perhaps frightening things. But, sometime ago my husband and I had an experience that could shed some light on this subject and maybe even relieve any apprehension one might have about things that go bump in the night. Now, I know this may sound unrelated, but bear with me, because it all started one day when my husband was complaining about some severe pains that he was having in his leg. He had been hobbling around for days, gritting his teeth, and saying, "There is something wrong with me. My leg hurts deep down inside."

"Well, go see a doctor!" I replied.

I need to explain here that my husband has a severe aversion to doctors. He may have seen a physician a total of two or three times in the eight years that we have been together. Nevertheless, his pain was so intense that on this occasion he finally agreed to go to the doctor, much to my surprise.

So, we finally get into the doctor's office and the physician is examining his leg. "Does this hurt?" he asked pressing down and probing with his fingers.

"Yeooow! Yes, that hurts" my husband answered.

"Well, there is no bruising" the doctor observed.

"No kidding" my husband replied. "That's why I'm here. I think there is something wrong with me."

"How did this happen?" the doctor asked.

"I don't know" my husband replied.

"Did you fall?"

"No."

"Did something fall on you?"

"No."

"When did you first notice the problem?"

"A few days, ago when I woke up in the morning, I did not't think much of it at first, but the pain persisted."

"Did your wife kick you in your sleep?"

There was silence for a moment as my husband's expression transitioned from pain and confusion to enlightenment. "YES!" he said. "She did kick me in the night. I remember now!"

This man claims to have
been "bumped" in the night.
Of course, I had to deny any responsibility for his problem, even if I do have restless leg syndrome that causes my legs to run, while I am otherwise sleeping. Indeed, I believe that my legs may have circumnavigated the world several times in my sleep… at least that is what my husband would say. He is constantly making an issue out of my "kicking" in my sleep. But, the point is… I was sleeping, so, how would I know?

In any event, there is a lesson to be learned from all this. For those men who just might be inclined to dismiss the cunning devices of their women… beware. You never know just what might go bump in the night!

Hi Michelle,

I think it's not your fault or to blame you for this "kick" but pity poor Mark has to endure the aftermath from the silent night.
I can't help laughing while reading through, hahahahahaha

Thanks Hilda,

I agree, Mark needs to get off the "kick" pitty potty. Nonetheless, every party needs a pooper and that is why Mark was invited. Hehehe.

Such kicking reveals powerful dreams afoot(forgive the pun);do you recall them?

Hi Paul,

No problem with the pun. No I don't recall all the dreams, but apparantly I don't admit to kicking him either.

Merry Christmas,

Yep, enjoyed this one! Quick one back at you - my father dreamed about being in a big fight with his older brother. That dream woke him up and he found himself yelping - he had kicked alright - his foot hit the wall and he broke his little toe.

Amazing what you do in dreamland OR from restless leg syndrome. Thanks for sharing your hahahas with us

Thanks Gray Mare,

Your father's dream sounds like something I would do. LOL. I had another dream last night, so I was told, that I apparantly hit Mark with my cast. However, I deny that as I was sleeping. Hehehe

Michelle, this is delightful! I love the stuff that happens at home that only we can fully picture. But you did a good job of getting me involved too! PS at first I misread your title and thought "Bump" was "Burp." What's up with that, with me? LOL

Hi Jean,

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the article. Mark also alledges that I have hit him with my wedding ring in the face a few times. I think he was dreaming. After all, we were sleeping. Also, who knows about the burp thing? I bet there has been a time or two that he has burped in the night. LOL.

Love, hugs and blessings,
