New Years Resolution - Resolved, No Resolutions?

There is so much hype about making New Year's resolutions that I thought I just had to say a few things. First of all, I wonder how many people even keep their resolutions? You would think that the numbers of successful resolution keepers would be dismally small. But, then again, on the other hand we should be encouraged by those who do keep their resolutions... I guess.

You see, it all depends on what kind of resolution a person makes. We need to remember that a resolution is when a person resolves to do, or not do, something. Many people will make resolutions to quit smoking, quit drinking, stop eating junk food, watch less television. And we can applaud those who succeed in these resolutions.

Nevertheless, many people get very discouraged because they have tried time and again to make and keep a resolution, only to fail. And this is where making a New Year's resolution has gotten a real bad reputation. So much so, that frequently when somebody tells us that they are going to make a New Year's resolution, we just smile, roll our eyes, and say, "That's GREAT!" And all the while we are thinking... "Sucker!"

So, with all this in mind, I was trying to think of a New Year's resolution I could make. But, after squishing my brain and racking my head, I was more confused than ever. You see, I thought I had decided to NOT make any New Year's resolutions. But... isn't that a resolution? That's like saying, "I ain't gonna say aint."

So, my word of encouragement to you, if you've decided NOT to make any New Year's resolutions is... don't do it, and you just might succeed.
