Paramedics And Firemen - How Not To Meet Them

A week ago Monday, I woke up and saw five maybe six men in uniform in my bedroom around my bed. The first thing that popped out of my mouth was, "Is this a dream?" You see, they were all paramedics and fireman. To make matters worse, I only had on my panties. I was reaching for the covers trying to hide myself as though they hadn't already seen these kinds of things and more.

Mark has always teased and laughed at me when he sees that I look at them every time I see them parading around a grocery store or coffee shop. One time as I almost bumped into a group of them at the grocery store, Mark couldn't stop laughing and than tried to make me get into the same checkout lane as they were. With my embarrassment and red face I immediately went to a line they were not in. Yes, I admit, they are nice looking yet a bit young for me. Most importantly, I love and am in love with Mark. I would never do something that would hurt him so.

Now let's go back to why they were all in our bedroom while I blurted out the question of dreaming. The last thing I remember was talking to my medical supplier who sends glucose strips to me. They had supposedly never got the faxes my doctor sent in (yeah right) and I had placed an order myself. After many apologies from them they said they would send my strips marking them as urgent.

Well here it is five days later with no strips. I had gone to our local K-Mart and purchased some myself. They still were not enough as I have to check my glucose a minimum of eight times a day! So one more time with no strips, I tracked the order to find that the order hadn't been placed until the day after I called them and it was being shipped standard. I was livid.

At this point I went to my doctors and got a new meter that would at least provide me with ten strips until my order hopefully arrived the following day. Unfortunately, it was a strip short and a day to late. Before we even got home from the doctor's, my sugar was plummeting and my speech and functions were slurred and shaky. If you didn't know me, you probably would think I had to much to drink or something.

I had gone into insulin shock and my meter couldn't read my glucose as it was under 20! Mark tried everything he knew to bring my sugar back up to no avail. This is why those cute men in uniform were in our bedroom. They administered some glucose and than I started fading in and out. That is when I asked about my dream only to find out it was real and they were taking to my favorite place of all. The ER! YUK!!

Now had this been just one of Mark and my other run ins with those uniformed men, it would have been a much nicer experience. Nonetheless, I am obviously alive and home, Praise the Lord.

Mark and I had a few questions of those asked by the uniforms. For example, they asked Mark if he knew me. Huh? I was in our bed and he called 911. They also asked if he knew of any reason I would do this to myself. I laughed and replied with, "You should of told them you forgot to lock the door when you went to work only to come home to find some strange woman half naked in your bed and than that I did that to myself because I use the hospital as a vacation resort!" I understand their questions are standard, yet they were strange to us.

Just in case you are one of those trying to attract a man or a woman in uniform, don't try this way. It could be harmful to your health and even deadly.

Uniforms come in all colors and designs- they are an outward sign of what someone does on a regular basis. I think Mark's "uniform" is the brightly colored cloak of love he wears every day of his life.  I think you have the eyes which can see it.-  Always- Ella

First of all, I'm glad you are okay. What a scare for your poor husband. Secondly, you had me laughing when you said they asked your husband if he knew you. Hello? That's hilarious.  Thanks for sharing, although a photo of your rescue team might have been a nice touch. :)

Thanks Brianna,

I am glad I am okay also. I would of taken a picture to post with this article but I was unfortunately a fumbling idiot at that time. Besides, I do have the mental picture. :-)

That was interesting and frightening at the same time. Glad you're okay now, but I hope you change your medical supplier ASAP; their ineptness and irresponsibility could cost your life. Take Care- Always-Ella

Thank you Ella!

Both Mark and I are grateful that everything turned out okay. Unfortunately I am in contract with the medical supplier until the end of the year. It will be okay though, as God definitely has his hand upon me and is not through with me yet.

Love, hugs and blessings,
Michelle

Cute article sweetie. I am glad. I think Ella had a good idea. You might want to pursue it or at least talk to your Dr. about it.

Hi Mom,

Ella is right but as I told her I am in contract with them until the end of the year. I have talked to Dr.Joe about it and we will be following up on May 20th. He thinks they should reimburse me for the strips, ambulance ride and ER visit. He wasn't too happy to hear what happened.

Love you,

Oh my goodness, how did I miss this one? I am new at finger sticking and ended up with 2 glucose meters as Wal-Mart brand was out of strips (the reli-on are very economical and I love that meter now and have a grand supply of strips so I can figure out what I do with which foods and avoid them - am now avoiding salt for BP too so my diet is narrowing fast. It is tough being an RN with only one patient - ME. Sounds like you had a bit too much of an adventure here - take care and hope you are OK! Where have you been lately? Marijo

Hi Marijo,

Praise the Lord that you are a nurse and have an idea of how to deal with your diabetes. Since I have had it for 36 years now and eat pretty plain I am pretty used to it. Unfortunately now I am extremely brittle and my sugar can go either way even if I do all the right stuff. PTL that I still have all limbs and eyes.

As far as where I have been lately...the hospital, more surgery and my computer has crashed. Therefore, I am on Mark's before he awakes and decides to go O/C on it. Although he won't admit that.

Miss and love you. Hopefully to return soon.

Blessings always my friend,

Michelle
